Welcome to Mira Mesa

Situated at the southern edge of Los Penasquitos Canyon Preserve and immediately north of the Miramar Marine Corps Air Station (the former home of the Navy’s Top Gun school), Mira Mesa was established in the 1950s to provide housing for the military base. San Diego’s largest community, Mira Mesa stretches from University City and Interstate 805 on the west, to Scripps Ranch and Interstate 15 on the east. The community includes over 23,000 homes, a mix of single-family and multi-family residences, and offers abundant parks and services.

Mira Mesa is part of the San Diego Unified School District. Schools include five elementary schools, two middle schools, a high school and Miramar College, a two-year community college. A theater, fast-food and sit-down restaurants, and large- and small-name retail services are found primarily along Mira Mesa Boulevard, while Miramar Road along the southern edge of the community is know for it’s abundance of home furnishings and improvement stores. The Epicenter, a teen center by day, is a popular concert venue by night and has hosted many popular and breakout bands and performers over the years.

Median housing prices in Mira Mesa generally closely track median prices countywide. While the terrain is largely level, some homes (particularly those bordering the Preserve on the north) enjoy distant and natural open space views. The area at the western edge of the community is referred to locally as Sorrento Mesa, home to many businesses with heavy emphasis in medical, technology, bio-tech and pharmaceutical (including Qualcomm corporate headquarters).
